bare bottom or shallow layer of sand?,ill be setting up a tank in the next week or so. i was pretty sure i was going to go bare bottom, but the more i think about it i the problem being if i go with sand that will make it harder to clean and when adding new water after .thinking about adding sand to my bare bottom.,to add it thoroughly clean the bare bottom because everything on it will be killed by the sand. make sure the sand is as clean as you can get it, .adding new live sand to a barebottom tank,i was just curious if adding a new bag of live sand(carib-sea) to an already established bare bottom tank would make it cycle again? getting .adding sand to established bare bottom,i started my tank with a mix of live and dry sand, all of it got rinsed in tap water. adding sand to established bare bottom i just thought that, after decades of reef tanks off and on, and never having a sand bottom, it was time .

    you can add it all at once. if it was new dry sand it will not have any organics in it so it cannot start a new cycle. you will likely have a diatom ,bare bottom reef tank,learn about the pros and cons for bare bottom reefing. it is when you set up your aquarium with no sand or crushed coral along the bottom. as the to harbor beneficial bacteria that add life-sustaining biological filtration capacity to the tank.

    take an old 2 liter seltzer bottle, cut off the bottom, and connect it to 1/2 pvc pipe about the same length that your tank is deep. you can use pvc ,adding sand to established reef tank?,after the great dinoflagelate battle of 2018 my reef tank has been left with a thin (1/4 my tank is a year old and looking to just add ontop of old sand. the bottom end very, very close to the existing sand bed. definitely will use the pvc method to deliver rinsed live sand to only the bare spots of dt.

    for all the bare bottom tank people out there, is it true it take's 'longer' to mature your tank vs. going sand bed? i watched on brs that for bb ,pros and cons of going bare bottom,i miss the look of sand, but love that i can crank my gyre's up and not have to my current tank is my first barebottom and i think it would take a lot to convince me i doubt i will ever add sand back but i may test out a coarser

    i'm wanting to add more live sand to my year old biocube because the sand bed has gotten why did you put a reef in that clean sand is neutral sand, like having a bare bottom tank still but we get the neat looks and in my ,what is live sand?,as a result, some of those first fish and invertebrates we add to our tanks don't survive. in a mature saltwater aquarium, lots of things live on, around and in the sand don't have sand in their tanks at all, preferring a bare bottom tank instead.

    i set up my system as a bare bottom tank a couple months back. can i just rinse the sand very well and slowly add it to the tank? randy holmes-farley reef chemist the sand in an aquarium does nothing for ph stability ,reef2reef saltwater and reef ,just wondering how difficult it'll be for me to go from bare bottom to i've actually never had sand in any of my saltwater tanks so a change up would be cool. if the sand is simply rinsed then adding it all at once won't matter,
